Hi Matthew, if you really want to explore your new surroundings in the most immersive way (especially for the kids)...try geocaching (www.geocaching.com) it's free and it's an adventure-a-minute. Then there's geocaching events where you will meet local geocachers (who are generally really wonderful people). I was discovering stuff under my nose that I didn't know about even though I've lived in the area 40 years!
