Thomas is 3, Sophia is 17 months

Now that Sophia is walking (and holding things), our house is looks like a war zone! Shoes, flashlights, clothes, toys, combs, makeup, books, DVDs, all get picked up, carried around and dropped randomly. Her favorites seems to be shoes and slippers, though. Until I started keeping her shoes locked in the garage, I'd constantly find them scattered in every room of the house! Every time we'd get ready to leave the house, I'd spend at least five minutes searching for shoes! Nowadays as soon as someone opens up the door to the garage, Sophia immediately appears, picks up a shoe in each hand, walks around a bit, sits down and tries to put her shoes onto her feet! She loves outside. Sometimes she suggests a ride in the stroller by clambering in all by herself. Similarly I know she's hungry when she climbs up onto her highchair and sits down, or starts milling around the table, eating crumbs off the chairs, or appearing in the kitchen saying "more." She is an enthusiastic eater. I feel like I feed her nonstop from 3:30 until after everyone else is done with dinner!
Thomas' imagination is expanding. He used to say to me, "Mommy, I want to talk to Salty ... Percy ... Gordon ..." or other of his favorite trains from the Thomas series. It all started one day ... six months ago? when he was kicking up a stink about me changing his diaper. I started talking to him using Sir Topham Hatt's voice ... and he immediately was on his best behavior and talking to me as if I was a complete stranger! Then he started asking for other trains. I'd have to wrack my brain to remember who the trains were, and what they sounded like, and try to imitate them as best I could! He seemed to be delighted to be talking to "new people." Nowadays he doesn't ask for his trains anymore, but sometimes he asks for Thing 1 and Thing 2 from his new favorite TV show, The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot about That. He does happily talk to other little kids around his age, including Sophia! Today Matthew tells me that Thomas said to our 5-year-old neighbor, "Our house has new paint. Do you like the new paint? Mr. Frank is painting. Do you know Mr. Frank? My mommy's name is Marsha. And my daddy's name is Matthew. This is my sister, she is Sophia. And her brother's name is Thomas!" And nowadays he is talking to Sophia as if she completely understands ... which I think she does! He'll sit on his ride-on tractor and ask her, "Sophia, do you want a ride?", and sometimes she'll nod her head and toddle over to the trailer and off they'll go, around and around the house, Thomas in front and Sophia riding in the back. She's a bit of a heavy load for the trailer, so it makes a high-pitched squeeeeek squeeeeek which is great because you can tell exactly where they are in the house!

Thomas is now staying dry during the day, and sometimes at night. He has done poos in the potty three times now! It's hard not to get big expectations after one of these exciting events . . . Keep it cool! Keep it cool! I keep telling myself. It's so hard! He's sometimes wears underwear (his favorite Thomas the Tank Engine on them!) all day and seems happy with them. This potty training seems to be rubbing off on Sophia, too. The other day, in the middle of her bath, Sophia stands up and starts pointing at the potty saying, "doddy, doddy." So I put her on the toilet, and she immediately reached up for a piece of toilet paper, pats herself in the right spot saying, "dab dab dab," and puts the toilet paper into the toilet! What a smart little girl! Now it's just up to her mommy to make the effort to follow through!
