We're recovered from our trip to Newark to visit Matthew, and I think Thomas is over his cold (at least, his nose has stopped running quite so much). Unfortunately, the camera is still missing despite Matthew's best sleuthing. But, life goes on and thank goodness we still have the big camera with which to take zillions of photos of Thomas! And, after Thomas' 9-month checkup tomorrow morning, Thomas and I will be going to the airport to visit Mom and Dad in Wisconsin if the loads permit (Hurricane Ike doesn't seem to be a factor). It will be great to see them after all this time (even though it's only been 1 1/2 months!!), and Thomas will have playtime with Michelle's son Dominic and Grace, the daughter of my high school friend Kate, who I haven't seen since high school! Tonight I'll be packing cold-weather stuff again. It was only a month ago that we were in New Zealand wearing layers and layers of clothing, and already it's time to break out the warm clothes again for America!
These days it feels like I am forever chasing Thomas and digging things out of his mouth or his hand. I'm trying to teach him "Aaaaah" to show me the inside of his mouth without having to stick my finger into dangerous toothy territory. I've let him into the living room to explore, and I'm discovering what needs baby proofing. So far it's been pieces of leaves, Chloe's food bowl, her water bowl, the folding screen, leaves from the fake tree, the VCR tapes, the CD rack, ... you get the idea. But he loves the hardwood floor for rolling things, especially the vacuum cleaner and Old McDonald's tractor. He sends the tractor flying and then chases it down and then sends it off again. It keeps him busy for half an hour!
Thomas still hates to take a nap, but I think we're turning a corner. For a while there he was taking two naps a day, each one between 30 minutes and an hour long! Not enough time for me to recharge my batteries, and I was getting pretty grumpy. Thank goodness he goes to bed at night without fuss and sleeps eleven hours, or I would have been roaring my tiger roar at everyone! Today and yesterday, however, he took one hour-long nap and one one-and-a-half-hour nap! What a good boy to sleep so long! I managed to get some housework done and take a nap. I woke up glowing! Refreshed! All I needed was a chocolate chip cookie and I was on top of the world!
