Well, Anne and Lloyd have departed for New Zealand. Sounds like they got home very very tired from some unexpected delays/cancellations, but in all safe and sound. Having them here was so great! It was fantastic to see them again. And it was also wonderful to be able to introduce Thomas to them! He was really enchanted by Lloyd's rides and Anne's songs and stories. They were masters of entertainment! Thank you, Anne and Lloyd! While they were here, we went to Kennedy Space Center. Here's a photo of us in the International Space Station exhibit. It was wonderful, of course. Thomas even managed to take a nap during the recreation of blastoff of the first Saturn V rocket. I did miss those nursing rooms that Sea World had, though: a room with a sink, changing table, and even a padded rocking chair! Every business should have one of those rooms! They are awesome . . . except when they smell of dirty diapers.
We saw lots of things at Kennedy that day: Discovery on the launch platform a few days before scheduled liftoff, nine wild hogs, an alligator, and lots of birds and other wildlife.
And today we went to the doctor for Thomas' six-month checkup and a couple of shots. He is 28 inches long and 20 pounds, 4 ounces. His weight gain has been kind of leveling off over the past couple of months, which makes sense as he is starting to move around a little bit more. Right now when he's on his stomach, he can pivot 360 degrees and move backwards. He is now also adept at taking toys out of his toy box. Next is putting toys back in! Something tells me that is a skill that takes a lifetime to master! Heck, even I, the adult, am still learning that one!
This morning I was listening to him babble in his crib as usual before I got him up (they call it "learning to amuse himself" -- I call it a few precious moments to get dressed and eat breakfast peacefully) when I heard him say "mamamamama"! It was mixed in with a bunch of other syllables, but "mama" was all I heard. Boy, did I go running to his crib with a big smile on my face! He said the "ma" syllables a lot more today, and it was a delight each time to pretend he was saying "mama".
Oh yes. Thomas is teething. Looks like the bottom two are coming in first. It feels like they are just about to break the skin. What with this and also his two vaccines today, it's no wonder he wasn't quite his usual happy self. Tomorrow he will meet Dolores, his babysitter later this week (she retired from NWA a few years ago) for my two days at work. At least she won't get lulled into a false sense of security if he's still feeling under the weather.
